Looking to buy a new digital camera, or a printer?

It's hard to keep up!

Yes, new cameras are being released very frequently. It seems that as soon as we decide on a camera or printer that we really like, a new model is brought out. That's good news in some ways, as it generally means that you are going to get more features or more megapixels for your money.

One of our favourite digital SLR cameras is the Canon EOS 350D. This has now been superseded by the Canon EOS 400D, but the 350D is still packed full of features and is a really useable camera that now represents excellent value for money. Higher in the range is the Canon EOS 30D - as you can tell, we are really Canon fans; but once you have a good set of lenses it makes sense to keep to the same manufacturer.

The best advice that we can offer is to check out the reviews in magazines and then follow up by going to a site such as www.dpreview.com, where you can get detailed reports about most of the latest cameras.

Where to buy? Well, if you have a camera shop nearby, it is well worth going in to see what they have on offer. You may get some expert advice too. If you don't have a good shop near you, or you don't like their prices, then do your research first and buy online. We have bought a number of cameras from Amazon, who offer very good prices for popular makes and models. For higher spec cameras we go to a specialist supplier.

The following links will take you directly to the Amazon online store for these cameras:

Canon EOS 400D

Canon EOS 30D

These and many more cameras and accessories are available at good prices online at Amazon.co.uk

Accessories

we suggest that you get a large capacity memory card and a small tripod, that is easy to carry around with you and you will need a roomy camera bag, to protect your investment, and carry those extra bits and pieces in as well (or your lunch)!

For a good range of tripods and accessories, check out www.warehouseexpress.com

Software

For general image management and editing, we use Adobe Photoshop Elements, which has a rich feature set, but is not too complex to learn to use.

Follow this link to buy the software on Amazon: Adobe Photoshop Elements (PC)

For manipulating RAW images we think Adobe Lightroom is great. Having got thoroughly acquainted with the beta version, we are pleased to see the first official release of this excellent software package.

You can buy it from this link: Adobe Photoshop Lightroom (PC/Mac)
