About 8 miles north of Arima is the Asa Wright Nature Centre, an old
plantation house overlooking the tropical rain forest of the Northern Range,
and a haven for bird lovers. Covering an area of several hundred acres,
there is a network of trails to the different habitats, or you can enjoy
a pleasant afternoon on the verandah, watching the birds which come to
the feeders. The rangers are very knowedgeable and point out the many different
varieties of birds as well and other wildlife. With a number of lodges
for overnight guests, this makes a very relaxing change from working in
the boat yard!

of these are in the small book which I took with me, "Birds of Trinidad
and Tobago" by Richard ffrench. Others were identified for me by the guide
or by experienced bird-watchers.
